Cambourne Church Council

Our Church Council is comprised of the Minister (Ex-Offico) and elected members of Cambourne Church, who take a strategic leadership role within the life of the church and our mission within the community.

Together we are responsible for the overall wellbeing, both practical and spiritual, of Cambourne Church - the church family, the fabric and finances. All serving as trustees of Cambourne Church which is a registered charity.

Members of Cambourne Church Council meet once a month, typically on the 3rd Thursday of the month in the evenings. We gather from 7.30pm for refreshments, then at 7.45pm the meeting begins in prayer. The agenda will include the Minister’s update, a strategic Item, finance report and updates from delegated groups (e.g. 19 The Coffee House). Safeguarding and Health and Safety are also standing items. We aim to finish by 9.30pm and we close by saying the Grace.

The delegated Strategy Group, formed by key members of Church Council, usually meet once a month to attend to any significant matters arising and to set the agenda for Council meetings. Papers will be circulated a week prior to the meeting.

It's possible for Council Members to take on specific responsibilities that may require additional meetings and tasks. Each Council Member brings their own God-given gifts, skills and experience to their role and are invited to serve in such a way that grows those gifts. Some may fulfil a specific role such as Chair, Secretary, Treasurer (as elected within Council) or Churchwarden (as elected at the AGM). Others may take responsibility for a particular area of governance, such as linking with the ‘Human Resources Advisory Group.’ In consultation with the Minister and Church Council, a Member’s participation can be tailored to the individual and the time they are able to give. We recognise that new Council Members may need time to find their place and the best way for their gifts to be used.

If you would like to find out more about Cambourne Church Council – maybe how to pray for us or how to join us – please speak to one of our Council Members who will be happy to talk with you.

Bill 10x8   Clare 10x8
Revd Bill Miller   Clare Cronin
Minister and Ex-Offico Council Member   Ministry Team Leader for Children and Young People and non-trustee Council Member
Bill is a Baptist minister, who came to Cambourne in September 2019 following pastorates in Maidstone and West Bromwich. He is married to Kerrion and they have three children. Prior to training for ministry he was a probation officer in the West Midlands. Buy him a pint, take him to a comedy gig, and don’t disturb him while the Six Nations is on the television, and he is a happy man! More seriously, his desire is for church members, including himself, to be more deeply rooted in prayer and more engaged in being and telling the good news of Jesus.

New to Church?

00 Welcome

Welcome! Whether you've just moved to the area, or have lived here all your life, we hope our website helps you to find out everything you want to know about our Church.

When & where does the church meet?

Sunday One will be on the first Sunday of the month. It is a 10.00am service for all ages with Communion.

On the other Sundays of the month there will be 9.30am and 11.00am services, as usual, with groups for children and young people at the 11.00am service.
Communion will be celebrated on at least one of these Sundays, as publicised.

Any changes to this will be shared on our Facebook page or shown on the calendar here.

The 9.30 service is more traditional in style with the music mainly consisting of hymns played on a keyboard.
The 11am service is more contemporary in style with the music being lead by a worship team. Most of the songs are more modern than those played at the 9.30 service.

We meet at:
Cambourne Church
Jeavons Lane
Cambourne
Cambs
CB23 6AF

You can see a map on our contact us page

There is limited parking available to the rear of the church building. The postcode of the car park is CB23 6DZ.

What should I expect when I visit the church?

You will receive a very warm welcome particularly from our Welcome Team who will be able to answer your questions and direct you to where you need to go. There will be some singing to start with as well as some prayers and a reading from the bible. There will be a talk (some reflections) from one of the leaders of the church, with a chance to discuss it further at the end of the service.

Tea, coffee and biscuits are served after the service where there is plenty of time to meet new people and ask more questions.

What is there for children and young people at church?

We have a fantastic programme for the children and young people at the Church. Children and young people stay with their families at the start of the service as we worship (sing songs!) together for the first part of the morning. Someone will announce when the children and young people need to go to their programme. We have young church for those from Yr R - Yr 6 and a youth group for our young people in years 7-13. There is a creche in the church foyer for younger children.

Is there a dress code?

No! Please just be yourself and come dressed in your 'normal' clothes.

Will I have to join in?

Not at all!
You are free to simply observe or participate as much as feels comfortable for you.
