Coronavirus/COVID-19 Updates

This page is if you need to bookmark or save it...

Monday 28th September

The prime minister has made it clear that we will be subject to restrictions because of COVID-19 for many months ahead, and the regulations on gathering may yet become stricter. So whatever plans we make may be subject to change. Nevertheless, we want to let you know that Church Council and the Worship Planning Group have approved a plan for limited re-opening for worship on Sundays. We have held a number of short communion services over recent weeks on Monday afternoons. We now intend to move these to Sunday mornings at 9.30am. Places will be limited, and there will be a booking system, as there has been for the Monday communions.

So from Sunday 4th October we will have a short service in the church building each Sunday at 9.30am. Places will need to be booked. This will usually be a communion service, although if a minister is not available to preside over communion at any point we will still hold a short 9.30am service with Bible readings and prayer. There will be no singing and no refreshments. Those attending should wear masks and the seating will be arranged to allow for social distancing. Also those who are unwell or who have members of their household experiencing COVID-19 symptoms should not attend. If you wish to book for the service please visit this page or contact the church office on 01954 710644.

We will continue to produce Sunday Different, our online service, which will be premiered on YouTube at 10.15am each week as before. This will be our main service for musical worship and for preaching and teaching. It is hoped that we will screen that service in the building at 10.15am so that any who have attended the communion service can choose to stay for Sunday Different as well.

We will no longer be opening the church building on Monday afternoons for communion and private prayer, unless there is a clear desire and need for this.

As from 4th October we will no longer be holding our weekly Sunday morning online prayer meeting because the timing clashes with the 9.30am communion service. I hope to make other arrangements for corporate prayer.

Wednesday 12th August

We are delighted to be able to start holding some in person services in the church building again. Initially these will be limited to socially distanced, said (no singing), communion services on a Monday afternoon. They will be available at both 2pm and 5.30pm from Monday 17th August, though not on Monday 31st August due to the bank holiday. In order to ensure we can hold these services safely places will need to be booked in advance, either at or by calling the church office on 01954 710644 and leaving the admin team a message. Numbers in the church hall are strictly limited, if you have not pre-booked we will not be able to admit you at this time. All attendees must be prepared to leave their name and contacts details with the steward for NHS track and trace purposes, these details will be securely held in the church office and destroyed after 21 days. Masks must be worn in the church building unless you are in one of the categories of people exempt from wearing them.

Coronavirus Period Help Request

If you need help during the COVID-19 period, then please go to the Cambourne Crescent web page who we are working with.

March 2020

Due to the latest government advice regarding the protection of our community during the Coronavirus pandemic we have taken the unprecedented and sad, but necessary, decision to suspend all church gatherings including home groups and Sunday Worship until further notice.

Please look at your emails, our Facebook page and this website for further details about how we will be walking together at this difficult time. Any services posted online can be viewed via our Listen Again page.

Remember the church is the people, not the building.

We are still Cambourne Church.

Thursday 30th July

We may be unable to meet together in the church building due to COVID-19 but we are still meeting together virtually as a worshipping community. Click on the link to view the online Sunday services on YouTube.

Sunday March 22nd - Recorded Sermon

Update 21st March - 10pm

After trying out ‘Facebook Live’ there is an unhelpful lag between the video and audio, so Bill has decided that instead of broadcasting live this Sunday he will upload a prepared video tomorrow morning onto our Facebook page and onto the Cambourne Church YouTube channel. It lasts about forty minutes and includes prayers, Scriptures and reflections for the day.

We may also see one another walking and praying around Cambourne tomorrow from 11.30am or 3.00pm. If you don’t know what we are talking about then watch the video below, which explains and gives instructions for keeping safe.

Video Update 19th March

Initial thoughts about how we continue as church during the period when our building and gatherings are shut down. Sundays - 10.00am; Sundays 11.30am; Monday to Friday 9.15am

Summary: (Please do watch the video for details)

Sundays @10am: (02m 40s) We will be meeting online (technology permitting) to live stream a service with Bible readings, prayers and reflections. We will probably do this on YouTube, and we will share details with you as soon as we have confirmed them. If you can't make Sundays at 10am, we will make the service available for you to watch and listen at your convenience as soon as we can.

Sundays @11.30am: (04m 20s) We hope that those are able to can meet in the church car park and get into groups of around 3 people and go for a 30 minute or so walk around Cambourne to share, listen and reflect. Please follow the government advice on social distancing, and watch the video for more details.

Monday-Friday @9.15am: (08m 24s) We are aiming to do a live stream for praying together based on The Northumbria Community content.

Welcome Visitors

New to Church?

00 Welcome

Welcome! Whether you've just moved to the area, or have lived here all your life, we hope our website helps you to find out everything you want to know about our Church.

When & where does the church meet?

Due to the latest government advice regarding the protection of our community during the Coronavirus pandemic we have taken the unprecedented and sad, but necessary, decision to suspend all church gatherings including home groups and Sunday Worship until further notice.

Please look at our Facebook page and this website for further details about how we will be walking together at this difficult time.

Sunday morning services are normally held at 9.30am & 11.00am; the 9.30am service is more traditional and reflective, while the 11.00am service is more contemporary with activities offered for children and young people. Communion is celebrated on the second and fourth Sunday of the month. We all meet together at 10.00am during the month of August. On the fourth Sunday of the month at 7pm there is an informal service called Encounter.

We meet at:

Cambourne Church
Jeavons Lane
CB23 6AF

You can see a map on our contact us page

There is limited parking available on the site.

What should I expect when I visit the church?

You will receive a very warm welcome particularly from our Welcome Team who will be able to answer your questions and direct you to where you need to go. There will be some singing to start with as well as some prayers and a reading from the bible. There will be a talk (some reflections) from one of the leaders of the church, with a chance to discuss it further at the end of the service.

Tea, coffee and biscuits are served after the service where there is plenty of time to meet new people and ask more questions.

What is there for children and young people at church?

We have a fantastic programme for the children and young people at the Church for ages 0–18. Children and young people stay with their families at the start of the service as we worship (sing songs!) together for the first part of the morning. Someone will announce when the children and young people need to go to their programme. We have young church for those from 0 - Yr 6 and a youth group called Xtreme for our young people in years 7-11.

For more information about what happens in the children's and youth work please visit the relevant age group section under church life.

Is there a dress code?

No! Please just be yourself and come dressed in your 'normal' clothes.

Will I have to join in?

Not at all!
You are free to simply observe or participate as much as feels comfortable for you.
